Chapter 26: The Orc Meets Men

Two men walk out of the cave entrance.

“ARGH!! THEY MUST HAVE EATEN THEM AND THEIR BONES! WHAT A WASTE!! And here I thought at least one would survive!! Those stupid b******!!”

Two were standing guard outside the entrance.

All the men wore expensive looking armor and gear.

Their weapons were sharp, and though their language was crude, their movements were refined and spoke of volumes of combat experience.

One of the guards perks up. “Wait, not even that medic girl?”

The other guard chucks a fist into his shoulder.

“There you go! I knew you were all about those small, skinny ones!! Just let it go and find yourself one from the new recruits!!”

“Aw, c’mon! I wasn’t the only one crazy about the Four Blossoms!! Everyone wanted a piece of them!!”

“Forget about it now. Those stupid b*******. They wouldn’t be in this situation if they knew their place!”

“Enough chit chat.”

A tall, handsome looking fellow comes out with 5 others. His armor is embossed with gold and jewels, but….goddamn...he feels dangerous even compared to the other guys.

Orukus: “…………..(snort) is he one of your ex’s?”

Noir sharply elbows me in the ribs. I guess not........

“Captain, what should we do now?”.

One of the men walking up behind this “Captain” speaks up.

Captain: “Seal the entrance. The women died in combat after disobeying orders, and we found their remains with the King Arachnids. Make sure to destroy their records as traitors to all nations and expunge them from the [Seekers’] Historical Archives.”

“As you wish.”

“Aww!! But Cap’n!! You promised that we could have our fun with them before we fed them to the King Arachnids!!”

Captain: “Shut it. If you have that much energy pent up, go to the wenches’ brothel camps when we get back. We’re done here.”

“Cap’s in a bad mood since his girl died too. Give ’im a break.”

A glare from the Captain silences the entire group. The man who made the comment gets a punch in his back by the others with hushed mumbles of, “you dolt!”

Barrels are set against the cave opening and ignited by one of the guards. There is an explosion and rumble as the cave collapses in on itself.

Captain: “Alright, move out!!”

Noir and I watch from afar.

I heard everything with my porky ears.

Looking at Noir’s serious expression, she heard everything too.

Now I know she wasn't that angry at me before. Right now, there’s too much pain in her eyes even behind that pristine professional expression of hers...

We said nothing as we headed back to my hideout.

Ayse: “Bastards!!”

Ayse slams her fist into the wall.

The girls are sitting on the sofas and chairs in the main living room. I have my back leaning against the wall. Gramps is nowhere to be seen, but I’m sure he's somewhere around listening.

Noir: “Calm down, Ayse. You’re scaring Shana.”

Ayse: “But…..!!”

Noir: “There’s nothing that can be done. That ‘urgent, confidential, all-important mission’ (she said with a sneer) from the Captain himself was a setup.”

Apparently, that gig was supposed to raise the status of the Four Blossoms to heights of great renown...

Shana: “But...what about the children who went missing…”

Noir looked down, pained and being too grieved, looked away from Shana.

Noir: “I don’t know, Shana. I know those kids meant a lot to Layla, so I hope nothing happened to them, but if I was them, I wouldn’t leave any loose ends like that. It’s the Captain we’re talking about.…..and he’s………..an extremely thorough man…..”

Shana put both hands around her mouth as she gasped. She ran to Ayse as she quietly shook and cried in her arms.

Ayse herself was torn between running out of here with her axe in hand or staying with Shana until she calmed down.

Orukus: “(snort) I know some of you may not like the idea, but you can stay here as long as you like until you figure things out. You’re no bother to me.”

Shana, with swollen eyes, looks up at me as Ayse holds her.

Yeah, the words were meant mostly for her. I know Ayse and Noir wouldn't trust me, but for Shana's sake, I want to be clear.

I slightly nod my head to her.

Orukus: “(snort) It’s been a long day. Here, I have something to do. I’ll be back by sundown.”

The armor girl is still asleep, but I made sure that at least physically(I speak in strict medical terms), she’s doing okay. She’ll be fine if I’m gone for a few hours.

I hate that the girls are essentially trapped down here. I hope I can figure out a way for them to be able to freely walk outside.

Orukus: “(snort) Oh, I almost forgot.”

I turn around to Noir who looks up at me.

Orukus: “(snort) By the way, I swear to you nothing happened between us back there.”

Shana and Ayse’ gaze snap to Noir’s reddened face and then back to me and back to Noir again.

I ran up the stairs laughing “BUA HA HA HA” like an evil villain as furniture and cushions hurtled towards the entrance, and the girl’s began to scream excitedly to ask Noir what I meant.

What can I say? I’m a Pig. Evil runs in my veins.

Even as a hero, I'll have to let out some steam every once in a while.

……and that should help lighten that dampened mood a little too.
