Ch. 98: The Nap

With the report in hand, I headed to the main mansion when I remembered something very important. 

Werner: “Oh, that’s right.  Hatiー”

Hati: “Hmm?”

Werner: “Hati, place your hand here.”

Hati: “What is this?”

Werner: “Well, you know that only one person could deactivate the barrier from the outside, right?”The Barrier Artifact settings were set to only allow myself to deactivate it.

But that was too inconvenient.

Werner: “I wanted to add you to the list of members who can deactivate the lab’s barrier.”

Hati: “That’s great!”

Hati happily placed her hand on the barrier’s core.

If an enemy decided to infiltrate my lab, they would first go after people who can activate and deactivate the barrier.

Considering that, I had made sure that I was the only one who could do so.

But Hati is strong enough, so she should be okay.

In Lotte’s case, it is more important that she is able to escape to here rather than worrying if she will be taken hostage and used as a key to the barrier.

As I sat up, I saw Falcon #1 in the room.

Yurlungur had climbed on top of his back.

I did not realize that Yurlungur had gotten up to play with Falcon #1.

Yurlungur: “Rya-rya!”

I was glad to see that he was having fun.

Falcon #1 is a large bird that helps my master, Professor Key.

It had come by to deliver a message before.

Werner: “Falcon #1, you must be tired.  We should get you some food and water.”

Hati: “Hati has already done so!”

Falcon #1: “Fah-ru!”

Werner: “Ah, I see.  Hati, thank you so much.”I thanked Hati, and picked up Yurlungur off Falcon #1’s back.

Falcon #1 must have flown from a great distance.

Though it looks well, it must be very tired.

Yurlungur: “Rya?”Werner: “Yurlungur, Falcon #1 is very tired from its travels.”

Yurlungur: “Ryaー”

Werner: “Now then, let me see the letter Falcon #1 brought.”

On the white envelope, it said in red ink, “Urgent: For Werner and his friends.”

That was all that was written.  There was no name of the sender.

Werner: “I guess it means others are welcome to read this too.”

Corally: “.........including me?”Werner: “Yes, I believe so.  Hati, would you like to read it too?”Hati: “Hati is cooking, so Hati will read it later.”

Werner: “Oh, thank you.”Hati is always working very hard.  I am very indebted to her.

Werner: “Urgent, huh….”

When Professor Key says something is urgent, it is not always the case.

Once, he told me that he had a very urgent and pressing matter, and that I needed to come to the lab immediately.  I ran quickly to his lab and found him sleeping.

That time, he wanted to show me a rare reaction from a Mana Stone or something like that.

And on top of that, it was 5 hours before Professor Key woke up to show me that Mana Stone’s reaction.

Corally: “........my Lorー, no S, Sir Werner(?).....who is the letter from?”Werner: “You do not have to call me sir.”

Corally is not a servant, a disciple, or my subordinate.

Werner: “Now then, I wonder what Professor Kay wrote.”

I opened the envelope and took out the letter inside.

As I began to read, Corally moved a little distance away.

Though I told her that she could read it, she politely declined.

I heard about your sister’s incident.

It worried me deeply, and I was greatly relieved to hear that she survived the incident.”

Do not blame yourself for what happened to her. This was not your fault. ]

Professor Kay wrote down words of concern from the very beginning of the letter.

Though he may not look like it, he is a very kind-hearted man.

I thanked him quietly as I continued to read on.

[ Now then.  By the time you are reading this, the world may look as though it is now at peace, and I am certain that you are living leisurely.

The Knights of Lumen have dissolved.  The spies from the Galatea Empire have been wiped out.

As Professor Key said, those were exactly my thoughts.
